Our u-16s had the smallest pool of players in the club this year and were coached by Dan Garvey, Brian O’Connell, Noel Gibsey and Neil Walsh.
Headford were drawn in a strong B division and had a tough time of it at the group stages. We had some very positive sessions and the lads tried their best to bring the work carried out on the training field into the games. The highlight of the year was an exceptional performance against Mountbellew/Moylough in the Shield Semi Final played in Mountbellew. With the sides level at the break our lads gave a tremendous attacking performance in the 3rd 1/4 to run out convincing winners.
Unfortunately we were beaten by a strong Annaghdown team in the final. A game with a final score that flattered the winners on the day. While we were short on numbers we arguably had some of the most talented footballers in the club at u-16 level. We hope that these young men, will in time play for our adult teams and we may even see some in the maroon and white in the future.💪🏽
